In order to
manifest the objects in my body of work, I must conjure up the
creative superspirit. I enrapture the spirit to Earth and command
it what to do. I investigate emotions with intense vigor and great
devotion, morphing them into solid spheres of creation. Through
understanding the sacred intensity of life and gesture, I transform
human ideas of function and tradition into universal representations
of vitality and momentary and immortality. As I strike the clay,
the artistic evolution is instantaneous with the extemporaneous
coercion of quintessential craftsmanship.
The processes I encounter and embrace are of both humiliating
intensity and gut-wrenching fury. The soft and supple earthclay
allows seductive manipulation towards almost intolerable animation.
The boiling blazes of the firey demon kiln often burn and warp
my expectations, but can mature the sacred vessels form beacons
of innocence to supreme life beings, full of candor and enchantment.
The ultimate result is a superbly intimate relationship between
the object and its user/viewer, be it one of rapturous delight
and amazement, or of daily use and contemplation.
